About Mary Banner
I am a native Texan raised in Dallas. Nursing was a second career for me. My children were growing up and I was searching for a career that both fulfilled me and nurtured my live long desire to learn and care for others. While studying nursing at Texas Woman’s University I was privileged to do my Obstetrics rotation at Parkland Hospital and discovered Nurse Midwives. I was clear from my first encounter with the Parkland Midwives that was to be my chosen path. After Graduating with my BSN in nursing, I went to work as an L&D nurse at St Paul Hospital. I enrolled in the Master in Nursing Program at TWU and was accepted at the Parkland School of Midwifery through UT Southwestern in 1997. After completing the program, I continued working for Parkland for nearly 5 years. I left in 2002 having been recruited to Medical Center McKinney as the first midwife to practice in Collin County. I have been privileged to have a long career in the Dallas area and retired from UT Southwestern Medical System at Clements University Hospital in August 2021. I didn’t do retirement well and missed working with new families in the most meaningful part of their lives. Last year I accepted a Part time position, back home in McKinney working with Dr Shimer and Craig Ranch OB-Gyn.
