About Helena Alvarez
I started my career as a medical assistant in OBGYN for 9 years and went back to school for my RN and worked as a labor and delivery nurse at parkland for the past 6 years then went back for my CNM. I was born at old Parkland in Dallas (which is why I chose to start my nursing career there serving the underserved population) and have lived in the DFW for my entire life.
I have always loved women's health and my experiences both good and bad during my own births pushed me to want to be a labor and delivery nurse and working alongside some amazing midwives at Parkland made me want to take it a step further and become a midwife. I strive to mix both evidence-based practice and holistic care while being aware and respectful of my patients' wishes to provide the very best care. My greatest experience thus far has been being present and helping with the births of both of my grandchildren.
I live with my husband of 15 years and our two sons in Bedford TX and my daughter and her children live right down the road. In my spare time I enjoy reading, learning, and spending time outdoors with my family give me a nice fall evening in my backyard with my firepit and I am in heaven.
I have dedicated my career to caring for women and families, I spent six years as a labor and delivery nurse at Parkland Health in Dallas before earning my Master of Science in Nursing and becoming a Certified Nurse-Midwife.
My connection to Parkland is deeply personal. I was born at the old Parkland Hospital and have lived in the DFW area my entire life. Returning to Parkland as a nurse and serving the underserved community that cared for me felt like coming full circle. My own experiences with childbirth, along with working alongside wonderful midwives at Parkland, inspired me to pursue midwifery.
As a midwife, I strive to combine evidence-based practice with holistic, individualized care. I believe every patient deserves to feel heard, respected, informed, and supported, and I am committed to honoring each person’s wishes while providing safe and compassionate care.
One of my greatest joys has been supporting the births of both of my grandchildren, which has given me an even deeper appreciation for the privilege of caring for families during such a special time.
Outside of work, I live in Bedford with my husband of 15 years and our two sons. My daughter and her children live nearby, so family is at the heart of my life. I enjoy reading, learning, spending time outdoors, give me a firepit on a cool fall evening in my backyard with my family and I am in heaven.
